I have a 2007 Chevy silverado 1500 4x4 LT Z71 with 5.3. I pull a 2H 4 star BP all aluminum slant load. I've not had problems, but started reading posts and want advice. The hitch on the truck says 600 lb or 1100 pounds wdh. I'm not sure what the tongue weight loaded is on my trailer. The insert I use in the hitch is rated for 8000lbs and the ball is 10,000lb. Do I need a new heavier hitch? Or a weight distribution hitch? Thanks

Think of your hitch as a chain. It's only as strong as the weakest link. You need the hitch weight of the loaded trailer to make any kind of informed choice.A 10,000 pound rated ball on a torn off hitch frame still leaves you stranded.

I would add that to weigh a loaded horse trailer ... That is loaded with horses. Don't try any method that involves unhooking the trailer from the tow vehicle. There are too many things that could go wrong quickly ..It is safer to go to a drive on scale. Weigh the TV alone, then go home and get the horse trailer. Just think of the horror of a trailer full of horses rolling loose. It would be a bad day ...
