Location: Black Forest, CO | I am thinking of getting an 2010 F150 Lariat, 5.4 Engine, 4wd with 11,300 towing capacity. I have a 2001 Kiefer Genesis X-340 3 horse slant, LQ, gooseneck.. Been told its approx 7400 pounds.. my question is:If the f150 has a payload capacity of 1910 llbs would be able to hold the trailer on the hitch – AND how much is the weight of the trailer is applied on the hitch?Could the F150 handle the trailer I have? |

Location: North Carolina | I doubt a F150 will carry a GN LQ trailer. The 7400 # weight you were told is likely the empty weight.... I could be wrong. The only way to be sure is to weigh the trailer fully loaded. You'll have to weigh your current truck alone. Then take the fully loaded trailer and weigh the whole combination. Many truck scales will break out the weight of; the steer, drive and trailer wheels in one weighing. The difference in the truck weights is the trailer hitch weight. Plus add a hundred pounds for the hitch in the truck. I'll bet a dollar to a doughnut that your F150 rear axle will be overloaded |

Location: South Central OK | Welcome to the land of needing more truck. If you can move that trailer with the 150 you couldn't safely stop it or make an evasive maneuver if needed. You'll be looking for a 250, but good news is that you can get the cheaper gas engine if you don't plan on hauling more than about half the time. I only say that because you'll find that if you haul nearly every weekend you'll see more durability and longevity in the diesel not to mention the gassers get crap gas mileage when towing heavy loads. I have had my share of 150's a 250 diesel and now the beautiful 350 diesel sitting in my drive and I can safely say that I will not planning to go back to a 150 EVER. Loving this 6.7L engine more than my 7.3L and that's saying a ton! |

Location: Vanzant, Missouri | I had a F250 with a 5.4 in it. I towed a 2h with DIY LQ and it pulled it ok on the flats. But in the mountains it sounded like the motor was under to much strain. I now have a diesel and no issues pulling with a 3h 8ft LQ. |

Location: South Central OK | Another thing about tow ratings, they have been changing how these are calculated. The market has been driving these numbers higher and higher each year even when the engine stays the same. I would find a local mechanic that you trust and let them explain how these new 1/2 ton trucks are not equal to a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. Also you need to see if the truck bed height is too tall for your gooseneck. Most people find the new bed rail and tailgate height to be a problem under goosenecks that haven' been blocked or ordered with a 4x4 option for taller tailgates. |

Location: Black Forest, CO | Hi, thanks to everyone for their responses. I did a lot of research, called the trailer company and they said they've seen people do pull 3h trailers in f150s but they always ruined their transmission because it was underpowered and over capacity. Along with the guy who said hes seen gooseneck hitch buckle up and ruin the axle in f150s.. I succumbed and now a proud owner of a 2010 f250 lariat 6.l diesel, which is hopefully perfect for my trailer. It all came down to the safety of myself, the horses. Id never besafe with steering, stopping or being in compliance if I got the 150 for the traileri have. I certainly learned a lot about 5th wheel towing, axle towing, bumper towing, capacity, weight in 5 days that I never knew about :) in hindsight, a f150 could never do the job, and im actually happier with the f250 diesel. |
