I bought a new to me trailer 4 years ago and the awning fabric needed to be replaced.  Just didn't use the awning, but missed it because my old trailer had one.  I finally purchased the fabric this year and today we replaced it.  There were several good youtube videos on DIY so we did.  We got it all done, looks great, but just doesn't roll back up correctly.  A year or so ago I was on here talking about this and someone said there was a place in northern Iowa that did a good job on awnings.  I need to take it somewhere and find out what is wrong with it because we just can't figure it out.  Does anyone know who I may be talking about?  I live in southeast Iowa.  No RV places around these parts....

Watch the videos again....sounds like you didn't wind the springs properly. I think the mfg also has video on "how to"

We finally got a chance to tear into it again on a non-windy day and you are absolutely correct, as usual.  Works like a charm now.  It seems like those little latches on the tops of the arms that lock the smaller arms that slide up to the top need to be replaced.  One of them doesn't have much spring to it any more.  Hopefully we can just replace those instead of getting new arm mechanisms.  I think they are supposed to pop into place when the awning is rolled up and helps keep the arms up against the side of the trailer beside snapping into place when you are setting the awning up for use.....
