Been looking at horsetrailers on a lot. It's about 50/50 LT vs ST tires. Question is has anyone gone from one type to another and why ? Also did anyone change sizes? TIA

We switched from ST tires to LT models years ago, and have enjoyed longer life spans, no speed limitations and excellent tracking. The LT tires last at least as long on trailers as they do when installed OEM on vehicles. We never have a problem with the  trailers' stabilities and  have no reason to go back to ST constructions.

We switched some sizes to a lower profile, based on what was available at the time of purchase . Lt tires are more difficult to obtain in 15" sizes, especially when many are Chinese made. 16" rims can use statndard truck tires of numerous brands. Some trailer owners, if they have enough fender clearances, have upgraded to 16" rims.

I accidentally deleted my long tire tirade (no un intended). Bottom line is, there is lots of information out there on LT versus ST. I am not comfortable running ST tires since most of the time my wife's horses are on board and she is driving.  I would not make a recommendation to anyone else but when I hook up to my  2-horse bumper pull with LT tires I don't think twice. My LQ trailer with factory fresh ST tires scares me to death.  They need to go but hoping to get part of a summer out of them without issue.  I put 16" LT tires on my bumper pull by purchasing new 16" wheels with the proper bolt pattern. Total height gain was less than an inch. Love 'em.  Do some research online and you will find out an overwhelming bias.
Rant Off.

I'll be the odd man out...   Got Goodyear ST205/75-15 lr-C Marathons on a two horse Gore bumper pull, put about 70 miles a week on it and have since 2012, tires still look good. Another set of Marathons on a 4STAR 2+1 Deluxe Quiet Ride, ST235/80-16 lrE. Date on tires is 4313, probably got 10K miles on them, wearing well, no bumps or bruises.....  Alot of that is at 70-75 mph with two of three babies, so no where near the maximum load for these tires, a bit over that 65 mph speed rating though.  Got some ST225/75-15 lr-D Freestars that will be looking a new home in a couple of years, they're on a 16' aluminum BP stock trailer that doesn't get too much of a load very often...... Main thing I've found with any of these "ST" tires is to keep them at the maximum pressure, the less they flex/squish, the cooler they run and don't leave them sitting for months at the time, just like me and you, they need exersize to stay in shape. Keep them rolling.
