OK.   so I started out  like 30 yrs ago w/ a small BP trailer and old F150.   over time got bigger trailers and larger trucks.  finally ended up w/ a  very nice LQ trailer and 1 ton duelly.   well...after hauling it around a few months   decided the LQ was too heavy/large for short trips so we got a great deal on a 15 yr old hart BP.  funny how our lives go around in circles isn't it?

I love this little trailer.  it's so handy and cute!   only problem is there is no space for saddles.  I put them  behind the seat of the truck but there is so much other crap back there plus I don't want to get the back more dirty than it already is.  so...I"m thinking we need some sort of saddle rack box thing in the bed of the pick up.   ideally it would be easy to take in and out and covered all around.    something made out of molded heavy plastic??      all we need is room for 2 saddles on racks.  that way can just lower the tailgate and pull the saddles out.

has anyone seen anything like that?

Have you thought about getting the protective bags to store your saddles in..

Wall Mart sells a poly box that looks somewhat like a foot locker. It has a molded handle on one end, and two wheels on the other, like many suitcases. One box will hold a western saddle, or an English saddle and extra gear. They're relatively inexpensive, very durable, will keep any tack clean and are waterproof. They're strong enough to sit on, and easy to pull around as you are not carrying all the weight.

My girls have used them for years, switching gear from trailer to trailer and many shows.

You can look on line for a saddle safe.  The ones I've seen look like a gun safe with saddle racks.

I know what you mean about the "little" trailers.  We leave our LQ setting and go for a lot of day rides.  So much easier!  But we do have a nice tack compartment.  Have you thought of the water tanks that are molded heavy plastic from High Country ?   It lays down and would accomadate two saddles plus carry some fresh water if needed.  I have used a saddle carrier for a while, but my the time I got my saddle zipped up who could carry the thing!  Besides now it has grease from the gooseneck ball all over it.

we got such a good deal on this small trailer~  wish it had a little tack area but it dosn't so we have to improvise.    I had a saddle carry bag but it wasn't really what I wanted.   thought about those water carriers but I'm afraid the saddle would slide off while we're driving, plus they're not covered.    I think Mark will end up making something- just need it to be  light enough to take in and out of the truck bed.

in the general scheme of things this isn't really much of a problem.. we're thankful to have healthy horses and trailers to pull them!

I just went down to Home Depot and bought a Stanley 50 gallon Pro Construction Box for this very reason. I also have a Featherlite with no tack area. It has wheels, a slide out handle, is made out of heavy plastic, and can be locked. I don't know how large your saddles are, but perhaps it would fit into this box. It was only $60. It was in the tool section.
