We are new to purchasing a gooseneck with living quarters/weekender package. (Currently we use a stock trailer)  We are getting lots of conflicting information regarding what are the better brands out there.  My sister, who travels in her 4star frequently, says she prefers Exiss, Platinum, 4 Star or if you want to go cheaper, the CM brand.  Several other people think the Featherlite is a better brand.

We need more opinions.....in order to make a better decision.

Okay - since I haven't gotten any responses to my question. Can someone point me in the direction of an article written about/comparing different brands?

Patience, patience-- We were not all just sitting here waiting for you to ask this question. We need time to get on our computers. The brands you mentioned are all very good. For my needs I felt like the Hart and 4star were the best so I compared prices with various dealers and bought the Hart. You also mentioned the quality of the Featherlite. There was a time Featherlites were very very good but then they sold out and the quality went way down. I had one of the older ones and really liked it. The newer ones I would not own.

You expected everybody to answer in an hour. Your 1st post at 6pm and your 2nd post at 7pm.  Not everybody gets online every day.  You will get some more responses over the next couple of days.

What makes up the top brand of trailer is purely subjective to the person looking. Do search on trailers on this website and you can kinda tell the better brands by the price tag associated with them. People won't pay a premium for a average trailer. Just compare Apple to apples.  And you will get an idea of what others pocketbooks feel are the better brands.

Stronger materials usually mean heavier. So are you a person who wants the strongest built trailer on the road or the best compromise for weight vs strength.

What features are important to you?  I personally want drop down doors all around the trailer.  It can be 100* here in the summer and -10* in the winter. I need the ability to open and ventilate on hot days and protect the horses on cold.

Things I would look for:

Proper axles. What does the trailer really weigh and are the axles/tires under it with in their weight limits.  It seems lots of trailers are within their limits when they roll out the door, but when they add a LQ they all of a sudden are over their limits.

I hate rust. So I tend to look more at Aluminum trailers, or at least aluminum skinned trailers.  I tie my horses to the side of the trailer a lot. So I want a trailer with a tough aluminum skin to withstand horses being tied there. I don't like seeing my HiTies or Tie rings being pulled off the side of the trailer.  Absolutely has to have a good roof. I won't tolerate a leaky roof. And the roof should be strong enough to support some weight.  Hay rack, water tank or even just me walking up there if I need to service an A/C unit or something else that is located up there.

Different manufactures use different designs for the windows, doors, manger compartments, dividers, etc. What do you like.  Look at a few and decide what is serviceable for your life style.

I think 4Star, Platinum, Twister, Hart all make nice trailers. But with their quality comes a steep price tag. I have not been able to afford their price level yet. In the more modest priced trailers, Classic, Exiss, Featherlite, Lakota, Logan, Trails West, all make nice trailers. Pick one you like and can afford.  I don't think it matters, ANY trailer will have a fault or two after you have used it for a while.  Horse trailers, especially LQ's are a compromise.

WOW!  Actually, I wasn't really upset..or "being rude".  Remember, how you read typing has much to do with your interpretation.

I actually was referring to the many "clicks" my post had received -- and had not had any comments.  So, I began reading through some of the old posts and came across one from someone who mentioned an article that reviewed the different trailer manufacturers.  So, I was actually trying to save everyone time in answering me, since obviously the answer was right in front of my nose somewhere on this website - but I hadn't found it at that time.

So, I searched and found it.  Thank you anyway for those who responded. And I apologize if you took offense to my typing.

I think Top Hat trailers is the best brand because it is established in 1983, is known throughout the United States for top quality, top-of-the-line trailers. And everything from it's 4’x8’ Single Axle Trailers to our 48’ Float Trailers with 24,000 pound capacity. Go to TRAILERS section to view it's entire line of quality built trailers.

If you want a go compromise - try looking at Cherokee - I am from South Africa and have never been state side. I bit the bullet and bought a Cherokee Tomahawk 4H unseen. I can tell you that I have been extreamly pleased with the quality and after sales service - even though I am thousands of miles away....My trailer has been used on some really rugged terrain and we are currently doing a 10 000mile African adventure. It has stood up to the conditions without a hitch...and the Guys from Cherokee are very helpfull with any questions.....

Its just a sugestion - go take a look

Another brand you might look at is Merlow... I believe they are quite good as well...

Good luck with your search...

When I was shopping I found Lakota to be a very good value,  the base models include everthing you could wish for and their customer service has a great reputation.  With any shopping you do,  just make sure you compare apples to apples.  For the structure,  compare the size and spacing of floor joist and wall braces and the thickness of the material used.  As for the LQ package,  make a chart of what one model includes and another does not.  With all the brands out there,  it is not easy to shop and takes a lot of research.  Get your budget together,  how many horses you want to haul and the approximate size of the LQ you need and then start shopping on this site.  Once you get 3 or 4 that look promising,  really compare them,  a couple things that will make a big difference in prices include slide outs,  8 ft wide trailers,  insulated roofs and awning.  A great place to shop is quarter horse congress or the equine affair.

I think if you'll search there's a list on here somewhere of what are considered to be the best trailers. There are a lot of good quality trailers made now, just depends on what you want.

Cherokee builds a VERY FINE! product, everyone at Cherokee is helpful from the people who answer the phones to the sales and service staff.  Cherokee is by far I think the best out there for the money and they do there own LQ's which is a better plus in my eyes if I were looking for a new trailer.

I recently bought an ordered Elite.  Very nicely built.  When you look inside the horse area the quality sticks out at you.   Unfortunately they are probably one of the ones with the steeper price tag.  From what Ihave heard they are comparable to 4star, hart, bloomer.
