I am wanting to install an Onan Microquiet in my rear tack...is it OK to also put the gas tank in the rear tack? I have a friend that has offered to build an aluminum tank for me, any shape or size...I just don't know what to ask for! I would truly appreciate some help :)
Thanks in advance.

Yes you ca.  I have had three trailer with the gas tank behind the saddle rack with no problems.  Vent it to the outside, it works fine.

The rear tack mount gets hot so keep that in mind.  I would mount it on top if you have a hay rack then use a small pump to get gas from the gas tank mounted behind the saddle rack to the roof mount generator.  Just my opinion.  We use every inch of space in our rear tack as well.  The 4000 will need to be vented through the floor I am pretty sure to keep air circulation.

Our Onan 4000 is in the rear tack, it is in an insulated aluminum box (as per the Onan intructions), has air intake in the front (with a screened louvered vent in the tackroom door) and air exit through the back, and exhaust underneath across to the other side.  The fuel tank is in the under manger area, vented to the outside, works great, is very quiet and secure.

Hello & thanks for the tips! When you spoke of the aluminum box as per Onan specs...would you happen to have a link to the specs? I have been searching, but cannot find. After reading the two posts, I think I will put the gas tank in the bottom of the manger & the genset in the rear tack (no hay rack), vent the tack door and put the tailpipe thru the bottom and side.
Thanks again for your input! This forum is so valuable!

If you would consider a Generac Quiet Pac, it comes in an enclosed case. They have the venting and intake on the bottom, that way you would not have to build a case to put it in your trailer.

Since I already have the Onan, there is no going back now! But thanks for the idea :) I am thinking though, that if I weld an aluminum shelf above the Onan in the rear tack, then that would in itself be a box for the gen...I'm thinking that silver bubble foil looking stuff for insulation. Comments or suggestions?

Just that you want to keep it to where you can service it, or take it out if needed for repairs etc....
