After reading remarks about roof coating we finally did our trailer over the weekend and what a difference it makes!WELL WORTH THE TIME AND MONEY!Bought a 5 gallon bucket from Wally World for $74.00, (already has plenty of tape, brushes and rollers). Wash the top of the trailer, used a brush to put a heavy coat around the edges and all of the extras on top (ie: a/c, bath vent, refer vent etc.) then dumped about a 1/2 gallon at a time on the top and used a roller to move it around. It was 90* outside when we started and the silver top was so hot we could not touch it, after first coat dried we could actually hold our hand on the top long enough to get on the trailer.Yesterday it was 100* in the heat of the day and after the 3rd coat dried we could lay are arms on the top with zero problems!I was so happy about that I didn't even think to check the inside temps on the trailer before and after! I notice in the horse compartment (non insulated) before I could touch the ceiling for only a few seconds before it was to hot not after 3 coats I can hold my hands against ceiling with just a slight warm feeling!

we bought 2 gallons of something similar to KoolSeal from our RV dealer.Been meaning to do this but it got too hot to be on top of an aluminum trailer, but,we are going to try to do this as soon as the temps drop some on our LQ.We had fans installed in the horse compartment,so once we get this next project done, the horses should ride a lot more comfortably! BTW=haven't seen you here in quiet  a while!

Glad you are enjoying it.

To anyone else looking to do this. Just a note that we've learned. Many things have a hard time sticking to aluminum, including coolseal. Be sure the roof is super clean & dry, or you may see poor adhesion in the coming years. Really helps with radiant heat transferred through the roof skin.

Mine was pretty clean since we have no trees around where I park it. But I did use a car wash type brush to clean the entire top as well as the top rail while I was up there. Also re painted my vent caps black to match the new skylight and bath vent. Amazing how a little paint and upgraded stuff makes it look like a different trailer!

I would say no, just some good ol' fashion soap and water with a scrub brush. I just used a brush with plain water on mine.

How long is your trailer tip to toe? Also, a 5 gal. bucket yielded three coats. Wondering if I can get by with same amount on my new trailer. Tks

33' But has a tapered nose.... I bought 5 gallons and with coating all of the seams on the top edge and around all of the vents pretty heavy then applying 3 coats I still have about a gallon left over! May have been able to go a little thicker on the last coat but I am really happy with the out come!It was right at a 100* here yesterday with 70% humidity and I turned my a/c just to see if I could tell a difference or not.... Oh yeah I can! We used the trailer last month with the same type temps as we had yesterday and we had to leave the a/c on 65 and on high to keep it cool inside. Yesterday I turn the a/c on 68 and on low and it was flat COLD after just an hour!

Thanks for all the info. I live in IL, and usually we have summer temps in the 90's with same % humidity. Will definitely look into this idea. Right now, I'm still trying to organize my new trailer; right now, it's at the dealer getting an extra liner put on the rear horse door. Seems when I turn the last corner coming home, the horse knows it and starts kicking the door. Also having a few more rings added in the front bunk to tie down any storage items when we travel. Just when I got my last trailer organized, I sold it. Now I can't find my things! But love the new trailer.

I don't see why not.... Just clean the surface before coating it. white makes all the difference in the world. A friend done his in the silver or gray color and it is not near as cool as mine is and he put his on thicker!
