I am looking at a used 2003 Merhow. It has been well taken care of. It is a two horse slant with a 12ft short wall lq and is 8 feet wide with mangers. LQ was has all the belks and whistles except for a/c. They are asking 24k, is this a good price? Also I am coming from a sundowner and am leary of buying anything now. Has anyone ever heard of frame or structural problems with these trailers as it is a steel frame with aluminum skin?

if you are at all worried about a steel frame, I would only look at trailers with all aluminum and there are a lot to choose from.

I have a 2006 Merhow Equilite, 2 horse 11 ft. short wall which I ordered.  It has been a great trailer with very few problems, pulls great.   Merhow builds quality trailers and has for many years.

I have a '99 Merhow with a steel frame/aluminum skin, and (knocking wood) no problems with that thus far.

I dont think any problems would necesarrily come just from a steel/aluminum combination, but rather how the two were combined.I did a lot of research and background on Merhow before we bit the bullet, and never heard anything negative about structural quality or design. We bought an Aluma Star, but would not hesitate to purchase an Equilite if it had the amenities I wanted and the $ were right. If its 11 yrs old and isnt rusty now,I would feel confident it would go another 11 yrs.You do need to keep an eye on the undercarrige and address any issues that get started, but thats true of all aluminum too.
