I am delighted that we are finalizing negotiations on the purchase of our first LQ trailer. The trailer is from Kentucky, and we're meeting the seller in Indianapolis this weekend. Would it be wise (and/or necessary) to visit an Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles for a temporary tag/license for the drive home?

Each state is different but in Oregon at least the DMV will only issue a temporary tag if you have the title or MSO. Oregon has a 30 day grace period from the time of purchase to register your new vehicle. I would call your state DMV (the one you live in not where you're picking the trailer up) and ask them what, if anything, you need.
