We got a 2014 Lakota Charger 8311 3 horse LQ w/slide in Nov. last year and Love it. We had a few issues in the beginning but AJ in customer service was great to deal with and took care of everything promptly.Even threw in a few extras for our trouble. In my opinion trailer is very well built, interior is very nice and they will build it pretty much any way you want it.It is very sturdy and pulls much better than our 2002 Sundowner 3 horse LG ever did. Some trips the trailer was loaded with 12 bales of hay, feed, tack, food, water, horses, etc. and it pulled great. We were "dry" camping ( no hook ups) from April to end of Oct. almost every weekend with some week-long trips all over MA,VT,RI,NY,NH,and PA on highways ,dirt roads, mountains, fields, campgrounds with no problems and loved the room and performance of the trailer. Four couples we ride all the time with bought Lakota's around the same time and all love them as well. We would definitely buy another but don't think we will need to for along time.

You may want to look at Cimmaron, 4-Star, Platinum, or Hart.... better quality. Look for structural integrity and pay attention to the welds, etc....

Just a little more on our Lakota and while I'm no expert, I have repaired, rebuilt my own vehicles for 40 plus years. I have checked construction of our trailer and have found seams line up well, all welds are solid clean welds, all rivets tight, all doors are square and operate properly. Interior is well designed and finish work is good. We did order it with the full length aluminum slats which makes it sturdier as they are welded to the side wall beams where as the sheet aluminum is riveted to them.We did look at them 4/5 years ago and there were some things we didn't like about them then (windows, doors, hinges) but they have upgraded those and come a long way in the last few years. Are there better quality higher end trailers? Sure and plenty of opinions on which ones they are. But of the 5 of us who bought them 2 went from Sundowners, one from Platinum, and 2 Elites. Do any of us think we traded down, not at all. I am more than satisfied that I bought a well made trailer that will fill our needs for along time. But again this is just my opinion and I respect everyone else's on whatever brand they prefer. I know this sounds like I sell them, but I don't, but 4 of us did buy them through Wasko's in PA, Dave was great to work with.

I am very close to purchasing a 2015 with a 9 foot living quarter and a slide-out, Lakota. I have not seen any bad reviews on them. I have heard that the ones just a very few years ago were not near the trailer they are now….Does anyone have any more feed back on the new Lakota's? Thank you so much for you who did post..it does really help..I am not an expert..I have looked at the top of the line..but I cannot go that high in price or weight..I have a 3/4 ton chevy diesel duramax…I also am thinking of purchasing the Warrenty through Southeast Financial..any input on that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Perform a "SEARCH" under Lakota for the last year. You will find several opinions about their products.

I have an acquaintance and the first time they took their Lakota out to a horse show the swing out rear tack fell off. I was not there for that one, but I was there when their LQ got flooded because the toilet broke. On that same trailer the rear horse door fell off. It is a 2014 trailer purchased in late 2013. Another couple I do know well have a 5 year old Lakota, and use it almost every weekend, and the interior is looking pretty shabby, and they take good care of their stuff. The first trailer here might just be a lemon, the second is holding up well if you don't look at the LQ part.

A few things that worried me when I was looking. They are a fairly new company compared to the others. How is this trailer going to hold up 5-10yrs down the road? No one really knows. Why are they a couple thousands pounds lighter compared to other well built brand names? Is the sacrifice to be light going to cause long term durability issues.

Maybe it's my way of thinking. But if one trailer is built feather light and the other is built like a brick shit house. Its brick shit house all day long.

There is a difference in a Charger vs. a Big Horn. That being said, my Big Horn is 2 ft longer than my Elite and weighs 1,000 lbs more so I don't think there is that much of a weight difference. So far I have been satisfied with Lakota, especially for the price.

Look up posts by me, Jeepplr you will see that I am very happy with my 2007 Lakota 10 foot 4 horse. We have not used it much lately, it is still holding up quite nicely. All welds and rivets are tight no leaks.

I just purchased a 2015 Lakota. I hauled it 1300 plus miles from Texas. it hauled beautifully. I would say, if someone can afford Elite, buy an Elite. They have great reputations, but are much more expensive. I will only be using trailer for a few camping trips a year and mostly Posse events locally. I did not need a heavy duty trailer. For my 3/4 ton short bed, the Lakota seems perfect and the truck pulled it with no hesitation. I appreciate the feed back from those of you who have actually owned the Lakota's..

I had a new Lakota in 2006? or so. they'd just come out. It was a piece of crap. It never stopped leaking, welds were broken, rivets popped off the padding in the stalls, LED lights leaked and shorted out, drop down windows would flap in the breeze driving down the road, etc etc. I sold it and bought an older Hart LQ and love it.
