All the lights on my 2004 Shadow BP have stopped working. The battery is original and the trailer does sit out in the weather. Can aging of battery for the break away brakes cause this problem? Thank you.

No, the trailer lights are powered by the tow vehicle, not the breakaway battery. Since all the lights are out, I would suspect a bad ground wire. Check the connection of the wire that goes to the frame of the trailer (follow the wires from the trailer plug to the trailer. You should probably replace the breakaway battery as well...it is long past it life expectancy

You could also apply some dielectric grease to the plug pins, and insert and then remove the plug from its receptacle several times. This will usually clean off corrosion that may have built up on the pins. If corrosion is not the source of the problem, removing the back cap of the trailer's plug will expose the trailer's terminated wires being powered by the truck. You can often find wiring that is pulled away from the plug's pins or broken, common problems with the flexible trailer wiring inserted into a rigid plug..

I would recommend you eliminate ANY adapter. Purchase and install a trailer plug that matches your truck's receptacle. Not all adapters are wired the same, some will work whilst others don't. The cost will be about the same as an adapter, and the plug will furnish much better circuit connections and durability.
