I have a 2011 bison (bought it new) and I've never used the battery disconnect button. Can you explain when one would use this? In the winter we have the batteries on trickle chargers. During the summer we use the trailer about every other weekend and we keep it plugged in so we don't have to empty the refrigerator. If I have it plugged in, should I be using the battery disconnect or doesn't it matter? Will the batteries still charge if it's plugged in and the battery disconnect is on. thank you.

The battery disconnect is to protect the batteries from the parasitic load in the trailer

I understand that, but I'm wondering WHEN one would need it.

When your trailer would sit for a long period of time without access to a trickle charger

I use the disconnect in the same manner with the following exception. I worry about an electrical fire while pulling down the road so I shut the power off before I head out. Google RV fires and look at the images before you say it does happen.
