I'm looking at purchasing a 2005 sundowner sunlite 727 Sierra. But I have been reading on here about frame issues with sundowners. Is this year model in the clear? I ready it was the valuelite that was the issue but I'm not sure if this one will be okay since it is also steel frame/aluminum?

the problem was caused by the "suncoat" sundowner used on the steel frame. It cracked and let water in and it just stayed there.

Was it the sun coating or the powder coating? I'm trying to find out which year and models have what.

I had a 2003 737 sunlite and the powder coating failed on the frame requiring extensive repairs and the suncoat was failing on the floor as well. I took meticulous care cleaning the trailer after every use and it still failed me.

It is the powder coating, not the Suncoating. SunCoat is not on the frame, just under the neck, on the floor, and inside sidewalls. Undercoating is on the frame, sprayed over the problem causing powder coating.

Even if you are getting a great deal on it, will it have any resale after you are done with it? Sundowner got too big for it's britches, the company was made well aware of the issues early on and still did nothing. Can you even find a shop that will work on it? I know several dealers that stopped selling Sundowners and switched to other brands because of how the company handled/refused to handle these lemon trailers.

Okay but if the indercoating is maintained like it should be and checked is the trailer okay? I honestly had never heard of this issue until I google and found a old thread talking about it. I have never owned a sundowner till about 6 months about it is a bumper pull and I love it. It also has steel frame and is a 2004 but I really haven't found anything bad on it yet but I believe it was barn kept before I purchased it and lightly used which is the same deal as this bigger one I'm looking at. I just don't know what to do lol
