I am wondering if it is advisable to pull living quarters horse trailer with a drop in toolbox? It does sit on the side rails and it is probably six inches on top of bed rails. I haven't pulled or even hooked up to trailer yet? I know a tool that sits between rails would be no problem...just not sure about the boxes that sit on top of rails.Thank you

Bad idea....usually there barely enough room without a box sticking up

We have a Dodge dually with a standard box and we do not have a problem.  Plenty of room.

A friend of ours with a Ford has no problem pulling his GN trailer with the box installed. Plenty of room in front of the GN, with no interference issues.

Is the box going to be in front or behind the ball?

In front, you lose some visibilities when hooking/unhooking, but other than that, I see no problems. I would recommend at least ~6" of clearance between the ball and the box (more is better of course).

Behind the hitch can lead to clearance issues and the difficulties of moving to hook and unhook trailer. Have seen it done on rigs that seldom are disconnected.

Good luck!

Not a question that can be answered without seeing your rig. It all depends on how much clearance you have between the bed rails and the bottom of the gooseneck. Hook up the trailer, get it adjusted so that it is riding level and see how much clearance you have. Is it enough to allow for sharp backing angles on whatever grades you expect to encounter? With our truck and trailer, we would be to close for my comfort.

Well, if you approach the 90 degree position relative to your trailer you may discover that you will have contact between the toolbox and the trailer's side...
