So my year old Lakota LQ with about 3500 miles came with Towmax STR ( or Blowmax as I've seen them referred to in reviews) tires new on it and one of them the tread in the middle is egging out all the way around it already, with other tire next to it, it stands about an inch higher than the other. I'm going to try to get this one covered under warranty since it is failing, but have decided to replace them all before blow outs start and damage trailer. Gonna call Lakota and see if they will help with the cost as they have been great on any other issues, but we'll see.

What my question is, is it has 235/80/16 on it now and the only thing in that size are ST tires rated at 65mph and all ST tires are made in China now the tire guy said. So I'm going with Firestone Transforce HT which I've had on other trailers and had good luck with, but have to get either 235/85/16 which are an inch taller, or 245/75/16 which are 1/4 inch shorter and 4 tenths inch wider. I think I would prefer 235/85's as that is what I've had before and seem to be pretty common on other trailers. But I'm wondering about the clearance between front and rear tires, being 1 inch taller I would lose 1/2 inch clearance from each tire and I have 3 inches clearance now so that would leave 2 inches. Is there a minimum amount of clearance required and is 2 inches OK?

Sorry so long just got typing and couldn't stop!!

I have a friend with a Lakota trailer that upped his tires 1 size and had issues with the tire hitting the fender. He blew out several tires before he figured out his problem. The clearance between the two tires were fine, it was an issue with clearance with the fender.

Thanks I will check that clearance as well. I did get it with zero degree axles so it sits higher so hopefully that will help with that.

My friend had a packet in his Lakota owner's packet relating to tires. He was told that the tire company handled the warranty on them. It sounds like you have one that is separating.

I have replaced the 235/80/16 with the 235/85/16 on at least 2 trailers with no problems at all.

If you have zero degree axles, I don't think losing 1-inch of clearance between the tires will be a big deal. The axles don't rotate that far.

This is an option, I have a set of 235/16 and a set of 215/17.5's both holding up really well. Lakota uses this tire on the Big Horn trailer. http://www.sailuntires.ca/images2/637/637.pdf

I have the Firestone HT TransForce 285/85R16 tires on my Lakota Trailer. They have served me well on road and off. They do not hit my fender but they are very close.I will never run ST tires on my trailer.
