I've found a pretty good deal on a used Shadow 2+1 horse trailer. It would be perfect, if it had a side ramp near the box. This one does not, so is it possible to add one? If so, how much would that cost and would it take away from the safety of the trailer? Thank you!

You could buy the parts from the manufacturer and then have a fabricator install them. In most instances this will be more expensive than ordering the option when the trailer is first being constructed. Additional materials are usually added to the areas surrounding the opening, to make up for the newly reduced strength of the previous solid wall. You will need a well versed welder, knowledgeable of aluminum fabrication, possessing many metal skills and owning a well tooled sheet metal shop.

I would say to have a shop do it would be $2500 min ,I would be more concerned with stress later in the trailers life.
