Hello all! we are new to the lq camping. We just got our 2009 Keifer Genesis 320 LQ and we are still figuring stuff out. Everything is great when you have electric hook up, but now we are diving into to dry camping and we were under the assumption the Charge Wizard converter model PD9260C 1000 watts out put 60 amp, would run the electrical outlets, off the batteries. However three days before camping we did a dry run and discovered the outlets do not work when the power cord isn't plugged in. So are we doing something wrong? We thought the converter was for that purpose. My husband is mechanically inclined but we can't figure out what is the problem, or if the outlets just don't work off converter and batteries... Please help. We thought for sure we would be able to run our coffee maker and tv at night. The lights and water pump work on just batteries but the tv and outlets for alarm clock, coffee pot don't..?? Are we doing something wrong, or missing something? Any helpful advice, Thanks in advance.

The PD9260 is just a converter which will charge the batteries and supply additional 12v power for the lights, etc. when the power cord is plugged in. In order to provide 120v ac for air conditioner, coffee maker, outlets, etc. you need a generator or shore power. Inverters ( which go from 12v dc to 120v ac) use a huge amount of amps and are not really practical except for small loads

Okay, Thanks for the info. We assumed since in our prior truck camper the outlets worked of the battery that it would be the same in lq horse trailer. Seems like we will have to bring a small inverter to make coffee etc. Well that's a unexpected surprise. Thanks again.

you will probably need more than a small inverter to run most coffee pots, they draw between 600-1200 watts. Another idea is to use a french press coffee maker and warm the water over a fire or propane stove.
