Hi all.....I'm new here. I'm looking for a gooseneck to import to New Zealand. having trouble finding overall widths on trailers to fit into a container. The maximum width that will fit in is 7 foot 8 inches and 1/8. Are there any trailers that would fit in?? Also need to be under 8 foot 6 in height. Any help much appreciated.Struan

EBY trailer options range from 6 feet 11 inches (outside width) to 8½ feet wide, which is the legal maximum. The standard stock trailer is only 6 feet, 6 inches tall, which is fine if you have small or short horses, but most horse owners prefer a taller trailer. "Standard cattle trailers are 6 feet, 8 inches tall, but most horse trailers are at least 7 feet tall, but we custom build our trailers so you can order a stock trailer any height you want." The tallest trailer EBY builds is 8 feet high....so unless the trailer is a big custom...you should be able to find one to meet your criteria...

Thanks for that Paul. Does that overall width include the outside of the wheels, and is the height from the ground up?

You need a measurement that includes the exterior wheel wells and axles with tires. Most trailers are sold with the "box" dimensions where the livestock ride. Be very careful when speaking with trailer dealers to have total exterior measurements for width and total clearance height so that the ground to floor distance is added to the box height as well. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just have one fabricated either in NZ or Australia and shipped across to you? There must be good trailers in Australia as many of our top stallions are shipped there for use during our off season for breeding purposes.

huntseat, there probably aren't any trailer manufactures in New Zealand or Australia, and i think they are down to only one automobile manufacture in Australia if i recall correctly. Almost everything has to be imported.

thanks for the replys. Yeah I as always having the measurements given without the wheels accounted for. We do have trailers built in NZ, and some good ones. But hardly any goosenecks, and all way overpriced. Its actually cheaper to import, and US trailers have heavier axles than ours. I got a qoue for around $7000 to ship one to NZ from Longbeach. Would be interested to talk to the guy who imported to South Africa
