Do any of you haul a small side by side rtv and horses in your living quarters trailers? My husband has copd and its hard for him to walk very far without loosing his air but he still loves to ride and camp. We are trying to figure out what kind of set up we would need to haul our Kawasaki mule and 2 horses. Our current trailer is 40 ft. long but only a 3 horse so I know it won't fit and thought about a trailer hitched behind it but that would be really long. I see some trailers that are stock combos with living quarters and wondered if that might work? Also thought about a 4 horse with collapsible tack and taking a divider out but still not sure it would fit in the 2 stalls. It is 52" wide and 9 ft long. Really don't want to take 2 vehicles as we go over a 1000 miles sometimes to camp.

I have seen alot of stock combos that do just what your wanting to do, you need to measure the lenght of your atv and then you will need at least 8 more feet for 2 horses behind that, always load the atv in front in case of an emergency and the horse needs to get out.

My side by side is 9 ft long, not sure if I could kind of angle it in there to get it in an 8 ft space. Agree the horses need to be in the back. Saw one that you had to load horses first and then utv behind. Not doing that. Thanks.

Both of Hornet's suggestions are really neat...BUT, one must be VERY cognizant of how high the CG has been raised for the truck, especially when going around corners...

Also...you will need to check what the trucks axles are being loaded to, especially when hooked up to the trailer...time for a trip to your local CAT scale...

I think any "driving draft" type trailer would work. You need space for the horses and the gasoline "cart" if you will. I disagree that the horses go in the back, side ramp options with a car hauler space in the rear sounds like a perfect fix. You could be looking at a massive trailer and/or a custom build. I'll search on this site but I've seen them here before.

Another option is a 4-6 horse head to head, but the overall length if you add living quarters will get crazy.

Thanks for the suggestions. Don't think I want that thing over the cab of my truck but it is a neat idea. I have to have a pretty good size living area as we stay gone 2 to 3 months in the summer and I run my ebay store from wherever we are at so I need storage too. Had someone suggest a 3 horse with a 60" stall and a side ramp. I'm thinking maybe a 2 horse with a 60" angled mid tack and ramp. If it was angled with an 8 ft wide that should be big enough? Then I could use that area as storage and a mud room when we unload the side x side. That would allow a pretty good size living area and not be as long as the trailer we have now as it is a 3 horse with an 18' shortwall. So have any of you seen one designed like this?

Yes, I've seen those but the stock area with tack and living quarters would still have to be found/built with a special width side ramp as most are going to be under 50" and you'll need wider for the side by side. I'd put a 20' stock area (2, 10' boxes) with the rear stock box having a removable divider for a two-horse straight load or slant configuration. The mid tack could house your supplies and then the LQ can be as fancy as you'd like. For the money Exiss will get the job done but any high end brand Elite, 4-Star, Platinum, C&C, Eby or Featherlite should have the capability to build a custom trailer for your needs. I have recently ordered a custom trailer and I can tell you it's very dependent on your trailer dealer/salesman listening to your exact needs and not ram-rodding you through your design details. It took several revisions and CAD drawings to get mine where I wanted it. Building my house a few years ago was only slightly less demanding but in a house you can walk through it and make changes with trailers you can't the CAD drawing is what's going to spit out the other end. You need someone that can listen and imagine how you'll use it, where things need to be and what needs to be in each position...these people are rare. You can search this site for stock trailers with LQs and find several that are great jumping off points but I really think you'll have to order one to get all your boxes checked. FWIW, I wouldn't do the over-the-cab rack either but the loading and unloading would have me worried to death.

another thought is to put your side by side in the back of the truck and use a bp trailer, or by a shorter side by side. I have a john deere hpx and and haul it on the back of my truck but i am looking at getting a cx so i can haul it sideways.https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1400760/Gator%20on%20the%20International.jpga 2+1 horse trailer is probably what you are looking for if you want to keep your existing side by side

this exact trailer will not work for you because it is a bumper pull but you could go from 3 horses to 2 horse side load, keep area in back for side by side and add LQ in the front. or you could get a 2 horse straight load with large mid tack with ramp and keep the side by side there then use as mud room when side by side is outside and a LQ up front. http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/home/trailerdetail.asp?ID=904776

Your situation is not that uncommon for folks that field trial where we haul atvs/utvs horses, dogs, all over the country. What typically is used is a stock combo living quarter trailer with a 16-20 ft rectangular stock compartment that is seperated by, ideally, a floating cut gate that can be positioned at any point throughout the compartment based on how many horses are being hauled. The ATV/UTV is typically in front of the cut gate. Many folks use a show cattle type setup with a ramp on one side of the trailer and an escape door on the opposite side. These ramps tend to be 48" wide so an ATV can go in parallel to the living quarters wall but since your UTV is 9' long it would have to be brought in from the back. If you search for stock-combo trailer with living quarters and use key word "show cattle" I get three trailers...the last one is a Shadow trailer that is very similar to what I have described although it doesn't have a side ramp or floating cut gate but it gives you the general idea.

If you want to keep your trailer -you could also have a rack that goes over the truck (but you might run into height issues and also axle ratings)http://www.loadit.com/-or add an extra axle (easier to click the link than describe it...) and load the UTV on the bed of the truckhttp://www.automatedsafetyhitch.com/
