I have a 09 Silverado 1500 extended cab truck with a B&W gooseneck hitch in the standard bed(78.9")and it works perfectly with my Sundowner 777 two horse straight 3400lb (empty) trailer. It's time to get a new truck and I'm having trouble finding a late model(2014)extended cab (now called double cab) but I have found tons of the crew cab models with the short box (69.3). On the B&W website they have a 10" hitch extension that would move the hitch point back the same distance that the short bed took away. My question is does anyone have any experience with this hitch. B&W makes a cheaper 4" model but I would need the 10".

I use a popup ball hitch extender. I don't like having the extension on the ball mount, adds a lot of leverage on the hitch and truck frame. With the extension on the trailer weight still sits on the center of the hitch, not offset to the rear acting as a pry bar effect. http://mrtruck.com/popup.htm

Here is the link to the extension I'm talking about:http://www.turnoverball.com/products/gooseneck-couplers/gooseneck-hitch-extensionIt looks very similar to the one at Mr. Truck. I think I've met Mr. Truck at Quarter Horse Congress or maybe Equine affair here in Columbus Ohio a few years ago.The one B&W makes is meant for all popup ball hitches...I can't see a difference in how what Mr. Truck has connects. Do you think one is better then the other?

Buy the one you are looking at. Then it will work on all your trailers, be sure 4" is enough offset. I bought the one that popup sell that replaces the hitch on the trailer, 4" wasn't enough offset for me so I went with the 9" I believe it is. The BW offset ball does ad stress to the trucks hitch and frame, 4" offset on a trailer as light as yours and you should be OK.
