you have at least 2 choices, buy a Honda 3000 and put it in the back of your truck and or in hay rack or if you buy a regular rv generator you can put it in the hay rack along with the fuel tank, ours is in the hay rack and it is no problem being at the fuel pump to reach it, the main thing on where ever you put the fuel tank is to have a roll over valve in it incase you do have an accident. there are several companys out there that make the fuel tanks. as far as the exhaust if it is on top and pointing to the rear you should not have a problem, I would suggest though if you go the pickup bed route to un hook the trailer and drive forward a little to get the fumes away from the trailer.

Interesting topic... I have always been concerned about carbon dioxide poisoning for those that have their generator in the pickup bed or anywhere under or near the GN area. We have a Yamaha 2500, I store it in the rear tack, I keep a 15' chain and a handful of master padlocks (all keyed the same) No reason I choose Yamaha over Honda that I can remember. I like the ability to use the portable gen if I had too else where, I don't like the vibration on-board generators create, and I don't want the fuel storage on board. Its light enough to move myself and or with help.

No doubt, Placing a generator under the GN while you sleep is a good chance for a permanent nap. Remember hot gas rises.... I've noticed a couple of places where gas fumes could enter the LQ on my trailer, yet there are no water leaks.I carry my genset in the bed of the pickup. Moving the pickup away from the trailer serves to minimize both noise and fumes to the trailer.
