I am looking into replacing my trailer jack on my 2005 Cimarron 3H bumper pull. Just wondering if you think it is worth the extra money to go with an electric jack? Would there be any disadvantages to going with an electric jack over a manual jack? Thanks.

For a 3 horse BP, unless you have difficulty with a manual jack, an electric jack has more parts to fail. In particular, the battery or switches. Stay with the manual jack. A very heavy LQ trailer, yes a hydraulic jack is useful.

I have to disagree, I put an electric jack on my bp flatbed 15 years ago, and since i have put one on everything i own, They are great, plus the one i bought has a light which is really great for hooking up at night. I have never really had issues with it, other than a dead battery then it came with a crank so I can jack it manually. I assume you already have a car battery In your trailer then it is a no brainer. If you need a car battery which is far safer for your break away system anyway, then you need to budget another $150 for that battery and box, assuming you can do the install yourself.

Why are you looking to replace the jack? Does it just need to be greased?

The jack was really hard to work when I brought it home. When I had someone look at it, I found out it is bent and now is stuck in one position. Just trying to decide if it is worth the extra money for an electric or just replace with a manual.

it is like 45 dollars for a bulldog top wind jack or 200 for an atwood electric, I guess it depends on how often you use it, but I love mine

A well functioning manual jack on a 3h bumper pull is easy to crank. (I have a bulldog on my 2010 Cimmaron 3h BP, just greased it and it works like a charm). The additional cost of an electric jack and having to keep the battery charged is not worth it to me. A LQ trailer is frequently plugged in to charge the house batteries so in this instance you would want to periodically charge the battery. If your luck is like mine, it would be dead when I wanted to use it.

Thank you, great information to consider. Think I'm leaning more towards manual.
