WARNING!!! I am a trailer dealer, Trailer Depot in Shawnee, OK. Today, I had a customer come in who saw an ad on Craigslist for a trailer I sold months ago. We do not use Craigslist to advertise anything but used RV's...we ONLY use Horse Trailer World for our horse and livestock trailers. Whoever US Horse Trailer is has a scam website set up with no name or phone contact information. The Craigslist ads direct potential customers to THEIR website using MY ADS from Horse Trailer World (HTW also does our website for us). I did a search on Craigslist and they have scammed many ads (all older ads with sold trailers), and put them on Craigslist. I sent them an e-mail daring them to come forward and contact me, but I know they won't.If you are looking on Craigslist in your area, beware of these people. I'm sure they are using ads from dealers across the country to scam potential customers.

Thanks Cindy! Yes, there is another "email" gatherer out there. And yes they do scrape your ads, sold or inactive, doesn't matter. They are currently trying to fill a position as an "Internet Content Hustler". (their words, not mine)
They use software to collect your data from ads then sell the data. It used to be scammers from Africa. Now there are technology people looking for an easy way to "milk data". These are often sophisticated "home grown" versions with real people pretending to be legit. Don't be fooled.
Often they know little if anything about the industry they are trying to tap into.
Look for terms like "data mining". Their hook is nearlyh always free ads. Thier sites have a clean look, with no banners. Etc. They can afford to do that because it's not how they make money. They make money selling your information . . . .
If you thought the scammers were bad when they hijacked one of your ads, outfits hijack entire websites. ALL of your ads. What can you do? It's your data. Simply demand they remove it from their website and computers immediately. You can also report them to: www.ic3.gov

Some people find it better to just watermark their pictures so that the scammers just move on to other targets. Sadly the laws and law enforcement are not adequately able to deal with these type of scams in a timely matter if at all.
