A Long trail ride.  We were on the New River in Virginia.  Had a great time!  We gaited smothly and it was much fun.

I was tired and not thinking clearly when we got back.

I'm glad I had a current membership to US Rider.

They sent a huge wrecker and winched the rig to safety.

I'm glad there was no injury to man, beast, or machine.  Well... my pride was a bit deflated.

I'm glad the goose neck hitch could take the extreme angular movements.  A fifth wheel hitch would have been severely bent.

I'm also glad for a 8 foot bed.  The cab would be bent a bit.

And I'm particularly glad for an understanding spouse.  No snide comments except "I'm glad it was you driving"

Thanks for the comments... Bad Judgement publicly shared becomes a joke instead of a dark secret.

Walkin:  The New River trail is former railroad bed converted to a 30 mile (or so) linear park.  The rail bed follows the river through beautiful gorges and curves.  It's level and topped with small gravel or cinders.  It's a shared trail with bikers and hikers. 

Chadsalt:  the truck was on the grassy outside down slope of a banked curve.  The curve compounded the traction issue.  If I had tried to work it anymore, the truck would have slid sideways downhill till the trailer was high centered.  Then the winch out would have dragged the trailer bottom on the bank of the curve.  Using the other truck was a second option, but the proper equipment (Big A$$ wrecker) eliminated drama and risk from the whole ordeal. 

Retento:  I am so grateful for USRider's response.  The call center operator took care of everything.  We were in a very remote area.  They didn't even have a previously contracted service available.  But with a bit of local knowledge and recommendation, the operator arranged wrecker service from the next "holler' over " to respond.  My predicament and USRider's great response convinced the two other rig owners with me to sign with USRider.  I'd volunteer to be an endorsement for them except then I'd have to display my stupidity beyond this forum of friends.

Hosspuller...I thought you were supposed to use one of those rice rockets when you were in a DRIFTING COMPETITION...

or at least a smaller pickup...

but not a fullsize with trailer...

N2ridin:  I did have 4WD ... only the four wheels were in the rear of the truck.  If I had 6WD I might have been able to get enough traction to pull the loose gravel hill and not gotten into the pickle barrel, as I did.  

PS .. I wasn't hot dogin' it like Paul thinks.  I had tried to back down the hill to get a running start.  I drove over the edge of the bank in reverse with the truck and ... literally, things went downhill from there.

To all loyal fans of my driving skill... Just for a test, I called AAA of NC with their temporary (one month) membership number they sent me yesterday as an inducement to join.

I told them the exact situation, I told USRider.  "My dually truck is stuck in a ditch.  I have a horse trailer attached to it.  They kept asking repeatedly, if I could unhook the trailer.  They were being a bit dense... If I could unhook, I wouldn't need their service.  Even with the RV Plus membership ...  End result... they could only send out a wrecker to be paid by me at the regular "commercial rate"   So ... AAA at $42 per year is no bargain against $119 USRider if they can't help when truly needed.
