Went to the Wilson County Farm Supply and got the truck and trailer weighed. Now the dealer/saleman person said the trailer weighed "around 7500#". The folks at Cherokee said 9660#, that was about a month ago. I called Cherokee day before yesterday, spoke to another young lady and she said 8050#. Only thing that's been added weight wise to the trailer is the A/C, approx. 100#.
Now! I want all of you to give your best S. W. A. G., as to what this trailers weighs. Sorta like "Are you smarter than a Trailer Salesman!" Don't be afraid, cause I missed by several hundred pounds myself!! This is the trailer..... http://www.horsetrailertrader.com/horse-trailer.aspx?stock=3170

PLENTY! That's my guess.We took ours to a local grain scale and weighed it ourselves.There's really no "about" #'s when you are weighing a trailer,grain/fertilizer scales are pretty accurate.Wonder why the guy told you that?

Duckman, rework your math, trailer is 35' on the floor, 8' wide and 7'6" tall. 43' total length. I will tell ya'll this, DOUBLE BOGEY ain't even in the same area code!!

I'm going to guess around #10,500. From my own experience.......I have a 92 Volvo (cheap) single axle and a 3H Elite, LQ, just an 8' short wall, loaded with 3 horses, feed, clothes, water and 7 hay bales in the hay rack and I'm at #28,000+ (#14,xxx on the truck and #14,xxx on the trailer) according to the CAT scales at the truck stop.

The empty trailer weighed.........9640#, truck weighs 7200#, total weight for truck and trailer.....16840#
GCVWR for the truck is 22500#, so that leaves me room for 5660# tack, carts, powerchair, feed, full water tank, our groceries and cloths for a week, the horses and us. I think the horses are going to have to go on a diet!!

So, the first person you talked to about the weight was correct. At least close. Our local scale works in 20 lbs. increments, so with a plus or minus factor they were right.Actually the CDL isn't that hard. I've had several of my employees take the test and none of them have failed it yet. Even had my kids take the written CDL and air brake tests without studying and one passed the brake test while the other passed the CDL. Told them they had to figure out how to work together to drive together.

Retento, A bit off topic and I don't wish to unearth the messy CDL thing but what you're saying effectively would require almost everyone pulling an LQ in NC to have a CLD? Not too many LQs are under 10000 lbs actual weight. That's scary. Is that correct?

A NC Class "A" license is not a CDL but more than an ordinary automobile license. I believe.. if you're legal in your state then you're okay in NC pulling a LQ. Unfortunately, the license class is based on federal rules.

Hoss, You're correct. In checking with the Dept of Safety folks in TN this morning IF your trailer alone, irrespecive of the combined weight, is over 10000 rating, which means most 3H and up, you need a modified class A CDL which will allow you to pull your trailer but not a combination. You do have to have a medical card but you do not have to keep a log book. Holy cow what a can of worms. I'll bet 99.99% of the cowboys and cowgirls driving around aren't legal.
Of course you can always get a big monster 30000# motor home and a 2H BP and go down the road and not be bothered. Geesch.
