haven't had batteries in my LQ for years. got 2 new ones and am confused about the hookup. it has 2 separate boxes. in the lid of one there is a small connector thing with 2 posts. one post has a terminal end attached. the pos line coming from under the trailer has a small end that would fit this. what is this thing? do i need to use it? i had read about hooking up pos line to one batt, neg to the other, and connecting pos to pos, neg to neg with jump wires. this extra small lid-thing has thrown a wrench into my plan. help!

12V batteries or 6V????? the small connector thing with two posts is a circuit breaker protecting the wire going to the 12V distribution panel

Do not attach a positive terminal to a negative terminal of the two batteries. This will result in the application of 24 volts to an intended 12 volt system. You will most certainly overload the circuit protection devise(s) on your converter/charger.
