We recently had a big mule gathering at High Knob. Jojo went out of her way to accomidate us. She had a wonderful meal and dance too. The camp is clean and getting better every time I show up....which has been 4 times this year alone......and that is over a 500 plus mile drive for me. It is well worth it folks. Just saying!

We also attended the mule event in Oct. We drove 2800 miles round trip and would be happy to do so again. JoJo is really working to make High Knob a great place to camp and ride. Trails were wonderful, weather was beautiful. Who knew IL had riding like that.

My brother is visiting me from Sac. Cal. and always wants to ride "Shawnee". We camped with the Texas bunch and sure had a good visit. The people in Cal. are never this friendly. Well unless they are trail riders. Why would anyone drive that far to trail ride? I guess the secret is out. Keep up the good work JOJO and co.

We drove that far because it was a "mule gathering". We can't claim the record for being the most distant members either....We had members there from CA in the west to Maine in the east.....Lois

I understand about the shhhhhhh! It's a double-edged sword. I see you are from TN. We have been thinking about trying Big South Fork--ever been there? I had friends that acted a bit as guides during the mule gathering at Shawnee. They had a lot of nice things to say about super nice folks from all over the country. I ride a horse, but they still claim me--occasionally-lol!

Most of the mule folks you met also went to a gathering in the Spring at BSF...We had a wonderful time there also. The trails were different but just as exciting. Of course we adopted you and your horse, remember my fantastic mule had a lovely mare for his mother....Lois

We have been to BSF several times. Our favorite place to stay is Timber Ridge. http://www.timberridgehorsecampground.com/index.htm They have 3 trails right out of camp into BSF and also have a trailer available if you want to haul to another trail head. BSF is so big you will find it very worthwhile to trailer around to some different trail heads. The folks at Timber Ridge will spoil you from the minute you arrive. While you unload your horses they are cleaning the manure from your trailer and then will hang and fill your water buckets for you. I don't want to high jack this thread with talk of BSF. There are quite a few discussions on here regarding BSF, I'm sure where ever you stay you'll love the riding!

Thanks for the links--I think it is a "must see." I agree JoJo has done so much to improve High Knob. It is what we would call our "home camp" and look forward to continuing many more years of riding the beautiful Shawnee National Forest. Actually got a bit "turned around" just this past weekend down there--Got off the beaten path and saw beautiful country. I use "turned around" not "lost". You are never lost as long as you make it back to camp without having someone else come to get you--lol!
