if you have a choice which engine in a new used truck would you look for the Cummins, Cat or Mercedes. If any of you out there have one of these trucks what is a realistic mpg.

Cummins for the longevity, plenty of parts sources, suppliers and a large number of garages that have the ability to service/work on them. Cat would be my second choice, Cat doesn't have the dealer network that Cummins has, plus they are getting out of the "over the road truck engine business". Pollution controls have taken Cat off the road.... Much rather have an old 2 cycle Detroit than a new Mercedes, buy one, get a few miles on it and you'll see..... Parts for the big Mercedes are expensive and hard to come by, most all the engine parts are sitting on shelves over in Europe. Long wait to get a MBD back up and running.

I have a 2005 m2 Sportchassis with the CAT. My last trip to KY, I averaged 10 mpg. I pulled a 34'  Bloomer 3H MT slideout trailer with a huge CAT generator on top. It had 2 horses on board. I ran 65 to 70 mph the whole way. 800 miles round  trip. My truck just had a full CAT service done at the CAT place prior to this trip so it was running great! My ALL time FAVORITE truck!

I am going to hate to sell this rig but if my health doesn't improve soon, so that I can start riding more, I am going back down to just one rig. So if your in the market, watch for my ads to appear here shortly.
