I just purchased a ram 1500 Crew 4x4 Gas Hemi V6 SB. I have a 3500 lb BP and will be towing 2 horses (appx 2200). Mostly flat hauling, but 2x yr I tow from 2300 elev. to 6500. My rear axle ratio is 3.55. Can anyone give me their opinion on this setup? I didn't want the 2500, so suggesting that that would be better wont help me unless it is absolutely out of the question to use the current truck/trailer combo. Don't want to blow up the tranny or engine! According to Ram spec sheets I should be able to pull 8500 max. Thanks for your input!

In my opinion, you are fine. Remember to slow down, and gear down on long grades to keep the rpm up, and the water pump moving coolant. Also a weight distributing hitch is very helpful. Coming down long grades, use your engine to slow you by dropping to #2, and going slower. All these things are probably common sense, but I have seen a few burned up brakes on long grades, and several overheated tranny's and engines on long climbs.

Excellent - I am already in love with the truck so I would have hated to hear that it is not powerful enough to pull my horses! Thanks for the quick response!
