I've struggled with indecision for the past month now. I've looked, looked and relooked at multiple trailers brands in my area (north Georgia) I came very close to buying a Sooner last month but just couldn't get past the 50K price tag it had. It it was a wonderful beautiful trailer that I could have been by happy with. So now, really down to brass tacks.
I have found two brand new trailers, both 3 horse slants, living quarters, no slides, both 8 ft wide, both have mangers, 10-12 ft living quarters, NICE, both are the same price, REALLY. I've looked at the history of both brands, both are some what equal to the other.
SOOOO, Exiss or Merhow?

I would not be able to decide on either of those brands... What kind a warranty do these two brands have?

Have you looked any late model (2004-2010) used C&C, 4-Star, Bloomer, Cimmaron, Hart, Sundowner, etc. trailers?

Jan - I would vote for Merhow also.  Having sold Exiss trailers in the past (prior to Universal owning them), and dealing with the former owner on warranty issues; I can tell you that it is very enjoyable working with the folks at Merhow.  We are presently a Merhow dealer; and their top of the line Verylite and Verylite Pro models, are as well built as any of the "heavy hitter" trailers on the market.  They offer aN 3 YEAR HITCH TO BUMPER and a 8 YEAR STRUCTURAL WARRANTY.  The owner and his daughter are "hands on people", that customers and dealers can talk to directly.  They work hard to please, and have great followup on any concerns a customer may have.  I think you'll be pleased with the overall quality of a Merhow.

I have been real pleased with my Exiss.  The people at Universal were helpful in fixing my tire issues right after I purchased it.  And the living quarter company Sierra Interiors has been extremely good about providing after the sale assistance even 4 years down the road.  We purchased a 2008 14 lq with slide four horse event series.

I have heard that Merhow doesn't have an engineer on staff. I personally would not buy any trailer that

hasn't been engineered properly!

Absolutely false information. I owned a Merhow Equilite for many years and LOVED it. There is no comparison between the quality of these two trailers. Merhow all the way. My next purchase will be another Merhow. Good luck!

I owned an EXISS. Once is enough. I now have a 4 STAR. For a little more money you can pull one of the very best!! The resale on my 4 STAR is worth the difference.

I own an Exiss now. Never again, but only because their post-sale customer service is horrible. The trailer itself is not bad. Like buyIng a truck and never being able to takr it back to the dealer.

I think the Merhow is the way to go.Ive been shopping for a year. I went to all the trade shows Equine affaire the QH congress and a few others.I kept a note book on all the trailers out there.I took notes of what I liked and didnt like of each trailer I was interested in. I ended up with the Merhow because of the way it was built.I have a 2 horse w 6ft LQ verylite I love it.I even had a friend of mine that grew up making trailers even told me how well built it was.,he even got under it to see the under floor and he said wow well built trailer.look at the welds the structure of the ribs of the walls and the dividers.I think ill have this trailer for the next 28 plus years.I had my last BP steel trailer for 28 plus years (1983)It was a Rustler now not in buisness.Know what you want as far as what you want it set up like.then go look at the Merhows.Give Horse Pro trailers  in Gainsville Ga. talk to Sherry Hudson I live in mass and I did buisness with her over the phone had my new custom trailer delivered to my door.I had no problems with the long distance shopping with her.

I hope this isn't too late.  I just sold my Merhow and replaced it with a Sundowner.  The quality difference between the two is increadible.  At first I really liked my Merhow and, in fact, at the request of the dealer I wrote a testimonial which is still on the Merhow website.  In hindsight I'd like to have that testimonial taken down as I no longer feel comfortable recommending Merhow.  I always felt as if I had to handle the Merhow with kid gloves and be very gentle with it.  I used to cringe at people climbing on the fenders of my Merhow because I was afraid they would bend or fall off.  One of the face guards broke within weeks of my owning the Merhow.  When it came time to sell the Merhow it took FOREVER.  Anyway, just my two cents worth.  My horse is back in a Sundowner where I feel more comfortable having him.  But, as they say, that is why there is chocolate and vanilla....

Ok Ok, after really pushing for the Merhow, and struggling with the financial issues because these things are not cheap. I bought a 2008 Keifer 3 horse with LQ. It looks like brand new and I love it. It was a steal, hardly used and I am happy. I just wanted to let everyone know what I bought. Some may life the brand, some may not. But for now, I am happy with my purchase. Thanks for everyones input. Jan
