I am looking for a 3-horse slant load trailer for my large horse. I sold my lovely Sundowner 2-horse straighload because I find it much easier to load my reluctant traveller into a 3-horse slant trailer.
However most slants are quite cramped for a 16.2h draft cross and my question is: Does anyone know which trailer manufacturers are making slant load trailers wider than 7 feet?

Most every manufacturer makes 8' wide slantload trailers. You just need to order it that way. One consideration however- is that at anything wider than 7' wide, there will be inside fenderwells which seem to be a popular place for a horse to try and stand. Right before they fall. Hence why you see mangers in most of the 8' wide units, but then you are close to the same space as a 7'W
You may be happier with a 7' wide, but have larger stalls. Also very possible, just a matter of ordering it that way.

Sundowner actually builds trailers in 3 widths; 6'9"; 7'6" and 8' wide. they used a taper wheel well on their wide trailers, so there is no ledge for a horse to try and stand on with his rear feet. If you contact your nearest Sundowner dealer, they can help yopu build a "draft friendly" trailer.

Just about every manufacturer is going to have something that can suit your needs, in a few it will even be a standard option and others it will be a custom build.I've seen Featherlites, 4-Stars and others. You really want to make the stalls wider AND increase the length of the stall. Know exactly what your measurements must be (head to tail length and width) and have them in hand when you shop. I've even seen people just remove a divider or secure it "open" so the larger than average horse has extra space without the cost of a custom trailer. Using two of the slant stalls for a single horse, the back slant stall is almost always big enough already.Food for thought!

I've haul larger draft type in a slant in the past by removing a divider, usually the one between the back two slants. Another option is a stock trailer. I have a 16' stock as my run around trailer that has a center gate. Horses ride great on it with plenty of space in the 8' X 7' area.
