We have been filling our fresh water tanks with hard water from the garden hose at our stables. I'm worried that it will be hard on the water pump and all other fixtures. I've heard that there are soft water cartridges that you fix onto the garden hose and as the water flows through, it softens it. Does anyone know where to find that? I've seen water filters but I'm not sure that's the same as giving me the advantages of soft water. What do others do? I also know some put a faucet on the outside of their house but that won't work for us. Thanks for any and all information!

we install this filter between the water hose and the water connection on our trailer.

That won't soften hard water, it only filters odors and sediment.

There are soft water cartridges. I've used these http://www.amazon.com/Crystal-Quest-Water-Softener-Cartridge/dp/B00... and even though it says on time use. I bought two and I recharge them by mixing up a STRONG salt solution, leave the cartridge to soak for a few days, then drain and rinse the cartridge. The life the cartridge is dependent on the hardness of your water, less hard = longer life before regeneration. It's worked well for me and I've noticed a difference in the calcium build up on my facets.

There are also more elaborate systems that function more like a home softener. http://www.campingworld.com/search/index.cfm?N=0&Ntx=mode+matchallp...
