Our rooftop A/C unit flew off our Sundowner 3 horse slant while driving down the freeway. We collected the mangled unit and on inspection noted that two of the front bolts had sheered off and the other two in the back pulled loose. Has anyone ever had a similar incident. If so, what was the result? We bought the trailer used and inspected the roof and unit at the time and all seemed fine. We are now trying to determine if the manufacturer has any responsibility here? Comments?

[We bought the trailer used and inspected the roof and unit at the time and all seemed fine.]...You assumed responsibility at that moment...now if you had taken it to a trailer service center and had paid them to inspect it...then you might have a case against the service center...but a lawyer will sue anyone you want for a fee...

Wow, that's almost hard to believe. A few years ago I replaced the A/C unit on a trailer and even after removing the bolts it took a lot of effort and cutting to get the seal separated from the roof.

A friend of mine had the cover fly off while driving to a campout. It was a Sundowner, but the cover was easily replaced.

I have removed the cover on mine to blow out leaves, etc when it started leaking.

knocking off yes I can see that, but blowing off is hard to wrap my mind around....think you might have come in contact with something.

Definitely didn't come in contact with anything. Was going over an overpass when it came off.

You may have hit something on an earlier trip and loosened it up leading to the failure that happen to occur as you were going over an overpass

You're supposed to check the bolts occasionally. My Sundowner lost its roof unit once too. I noticed when I got where I was going that it was part way off the hole. 3 bolts had backed out and the last one sheared, so it was just the wires holding it at that point. No, I didn't hit anything, it just came loose over time with lots of miles over rough roads.
