Does anyone on this forum have an F-350 4x4 dually have braking problems while pulling their LQ trailer???? There have been a couple of incidents where our brakes have failed when pulling. We took it to the dealer where we bought it new, they found "NO problem"....??? I had it fail while hauling big bales on a flatbed trailer, I'm concerned about the risk. We need some help and advice. My husband wants a bigger truck, we are not rodeo pros or breeders, just trailride now. I don't want to pay for another Freightliner and insure it. It is supposed to be fun, now it is a dealbreaker for me. Thanks.

Paul; Thank you! It wasn't like the link... it just goes to the floor like mush! no brake light warning on, as though it was bypassing the "cups"....?????? We are afraid to use it to pull.

What year model? How long have you been driving when this happens?
Any chance the brake fluid is old? Moisture in brake fluid can boil when it is hot from heavy braking, and can cause this symptom. Many vehicles call for a fluid change every 24 months for this reason.

The fluid is not old. It is not getting boiling hot ( I don't think). It is a 2006 F-350 Lariat super cab, heavy duty with air ride. It has a little over 70,000 miles on it. We bought it new. Within the first 25,000 miles, we heard about the 6.0 issues with the EGR valve and the "puking" antifreeze. We had it "puke" near Branson, Missouri, on the way down to the Buffalo River.... eeks. We took it inot the dealer and demanded that they replace the head bolts and fix whatever the issue was... with an extended warranty to insure we would be OK.I am certain that this brake issue can be repaired.... It seems like it is an electrical/electronic issue... they just aren't there when you need them.

I had a 2001 F250 7.3L that did something very similar a time or two with only 8,000 miles on the odometer. I took it back to the dealership and found after replacing the "timing sensor" twice it needed an entire rewiring from head lights to tail lights. When the timing senor was causing my problems I had no brakes and blew through a few intersections fully loaded with young riders and horses in my rig. After finally reaching a stop it would then seem to reset and go back to working properly, I never knew when the brakes would go and I lived in fear both times for the safety of everyone on the road near me or in the truck. The dealer that finally fixed it for me was a horse friend and when I asked if he'd want his daughter and her horse driving around in that truck he realized how serious I was. (I finally got it fixed after demanding that when they sent the Ford diesel tech from Michigan that she also bring an old priest and a young priest, for the exorcism it would take to clear out the electrical demons. Never had a bad day with the truck after the re-wire that Ford ordered.) Good luck, I know your fears!
