I have a 2000 Exiss living quarter trailer that has a solar panel with a little box in the bathroom closet. When the trailer is plugged in to electric at home or at camp, the little box makes a humming noise. Is that normal?

The trailer battery charger is probably over-riding the solar controller with a slightly higher charge voltage. The solar charger should just back off and stop attempting to provide any charge. You will need to look up the manufacturer of the solar charge controller on the Internet if you don't have then manual, and see how they handle this situation. Mine just shuts down and lets the trailer charger take over until you unplug it.
