Hi all -- I'm new to the horse trailer world and looking at a 2014 Lakota Bighorn 8416GLQ 4h 16' short wall. Can anyone give me an estimated value or what is the most you would pay. The trailer has been used about 10 times and I know the people who own it.Thanks

I would recommend a larger tow vehicle. we recently upgraded and now pull an all aluminum 4H reverse slant with full rear tack, 12'6" LQ and 10' hay pod with generator system on board, mangers and slide out grill (about 40') with a chevy 3500HD diesel with the allison transmission and had timberens added and tow with no problems. the 2500 may pull the trailer fine but you need more brakes in my opinion.

Not to mention the pin weight is likely too much for the rear tires of a SRW, especially a 3/4. Dual wheels on the rear will give more stability and spread the weight over more area, so you're less likely to experience tire failure. My trailer is right at the tire weight capacity on a 1 ton SRW, so I went with a dually.

..NO WAY!! Even if it somehow could carry the weight it probably would never get out of second gear. That gas powered 2500hd is rated to tow a trailer no more than about 10K. That Lakota trailer empty with no water, animals or tack will weigh more than 13K, probably closer to 14K. Going to need more truck and a 3500hd Duramax/Allison will be about maxed out with that trailer. The 3500 will pull it and carry the weight but it will take a lot of highway to stop that trailer loaded specially with electric brakes. .

We were camping a couple of weeks ago and a family was near us with there new (to them) trailer just like you are talking about. They were pulling with their Dodge 2500 Cummins crew cab short box. All the salesmen (truck and trailer) said he was good to go. On the way to the campground he went over a CAT scale. Found out he was over 2000 pounds over limit on his rear axle. He was heading back to trailer dealer Monday morning.

too many people out there are so over loaded on weight that it is scary, yes a lot of trucks can pull the load but they never think about stopping it, as I have said before on this forum we have a 3500 and a 5500 Dodge guess which one I pull our 4 horse with 18' Lq with??

You all are crazy to pull something that big with a pick up. Forget 550' s they are not a mid class truck. You need a 650 or 750. The cheapest option though is a used semi with 500000 miles on it. Plus they have all the power you need, the frames are strong enough to put a tank on, and you can stop! Here is to keeping out small,Mike

I have a Chevy 2500 HD and a Lakota 4 horse 10 foot LQ. Empty my pin weight is close to my max tire weight but within axle weight tolerances. I use my trailer to transport my Jeep to the Colorado Rockies and haul my 2 horses around as needed. I load the Jeep in backwards to lessen my pin weight and I keep my horses in the #2&3 stalls behind/over the trailer axles for the same reason. Loaded like that I can handle all of our camping supplies and 20 gallons in the 100 gallon fresh water tank. My engine had extensive modifications so It is able to pull that trailer through the Eisenhower tunnel in Colorado. It make about 600 hp. My brakes have also been upgraded to the largest possible breaks we can find that fit my axles. The short answer as to whether your truck will be able to pull the trailer is; it can be made to pull the trailer. Stock there is no way that you would have the carrying capacity on your axles or tires and your engine would be lacking in power to get the trailer moving up any grade at all. We were shopping for a much smaller trailer that was more in line with my trucks capacities but came across our Lakota at a price we could not turn down. Later we learned why it was so deeply discounted; it is built backward, enter on the drivers side dump on the pax side. We could not afford a new truck so we had to upgrade our existing truck to make it capable of pulling that trailer. We are extremely happy with our Lakota trailer and the modifications to my truck make it fun out on the street.
