I went back to March and didn't see this topic so I'm hoping to get some feedback. I recently sold my 2 horse BP and am looking for a 3 horse LQ gooseneck. I am looking for a new trailer because I don't know enough to not buy someone else's problems. I have a Ford F250 Diesel. I haul TWH. My goal is to spend under $30k. I'd appreciate feedback from the group.

A lot of girls down here are getting a Lakota Trailer. Don't ask me how they hold up.

Get a four horse, more room for stuff, better resale, the F-250 should handle this one with the axle placement that it has...... http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/home/trailerdetail.asp?ID=861773

For $30K, I would look for an older, better made trailer like a 4 Star, Elite, Eby, Hart or Festherlite. I would look at one made before 2004. If you buy from a dealer, ask them to go over it before hand to make sure there are no issues with it. I would much rather by quality used than not-so-well made new. http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/home/trailerdetail.asp?ID=855595ht...

all of the trailers that are older are a lot better made than the new ones, look at an older one and compare it to the new ones and you will see the difference, any trailer has to have maintenance and as long as you do that and possibly keep it in a barn they will last forever.

Kooner has it right. There seemed to be a huge shift in quality after the mid 2000s. Part of it was people wanting less expensive trailers and then the downturn in the economy. I also believe that when companies changed hands quality took a downturn as well. I have two older Featherlites- a '99 and a '03. The only way I would buy a new one is if it were custom ordered and built to my specs. I firmly believe if you put some a new trailer made today side by side to an older model, you would be quite surprised by the comparison.

Talked to the hubby. He wants to stick with newer. Looking at Hawks and Sooner so far. Any thoughts? They seem to come in around $35k.

Something else to consider about your trailers, it is a huge huge pet peeve of mine for these trailer manufactures who put the vents and appliances on the side of the trailer where you awning and front door is. I would hate to be sitting there enjoying a relaxing evening listening to the hot water heater burn, and the refrigerator burning away, we opted out of having a slide out trailer just for this reason.
