Subject: Lighted exterior grab handle - how to replace bulbs

I just purchased a nice used Elite trailer - LQ done by Classic Conversions, TX (now out of business). I don't know for certain that the "plastic" grab handle next to the LQ door is supposed to light up but I have one interior switch that doesn't seem to work anything else. My local True Value suggested there was a blown light bulb on the inside of the trailer near the handle but I can't see anything. There is a closet on the back side of where the handle is mounted.

How do I check and or replace the bulb for this handle?

Thanks in advance.

First make sure the switch is good....use a test light from switch terminal to ground....should light up when switch is turned on. If that is not the problem. remove screws on handle socket from outside and remove plastic.... you should see bulb

If your switch and wiring checks out, you'll probably have to replace the entire handle.  I had mine off a while back thinking I'd replace the bulb with a blue one, problem is, it is sealed.  There is no access to the bulb.

Similar to Beeoerdog, I was able to remove the top and bottom brackets of the lighted handle to replace the bulb.
These were easily removed from the exterior of the trailer.
Our bulb was a standard type 194 automotive bulb (commonly used for clearance lights) which I replaced with an equivalent LED type bulb.
The LED bulb gives a brighter light using about 10% of the power of a conventional bulb and is supposed to have a much longer life.
You can also get LED bulbs in different colors if desired.

There are older with the 194 bulb, and newer ones with LEDs that I believe are sealed.
