Subject: Building back doors for trailer

I am replacing the ramp and top half doors on the back of my daughter's Merhow straight-load trailer. The ramp and half doors had completely rotted away and we're starting from scratch. We have decided to replace the ramp/doors with 2 French style doors with no ramp, making the trailer now a step-up. Are these type of doors typically made of plywood sandwiched between aluminum skin with H-trim around the edges? Or, are they made with 3/4 inch steel square-tubing as a frame? (I am worried about the horses potentially kicking at the doors, and want extra reinforcement.)
