Like beeoergdog says 2 15/16" is the standard...there are now 3" balls available for certain drawtite units https://www.etrailer.com/Balls/Draw-Tite/19307.html

there is a posibility that it is a 2" if the trailer is from the late 60's, but as said 2 15/16 is the norm.
