Finally got a beautiful LQ horse trailer. Now I need to attach hay bag hooks and bucket hangers to the outside. What is the strongest way outside of welding? Have considered tap screws, pop rivets, bolts thru both layers. What other options are out there?

I have 2 of the aluminum flat back bucket brackets http://www.enasco.com/ProductDetail.do?sku=C15379N attached to either side of our triler. I just found where a beam was and used stainless hexhead selftappers (can't remember the size but they were large), after drilling a hole of course. Our trailer is aluminum. We use large carribiners for our hay bags and hang them on the tie rings on the inside and outside of the trailer. Hope this helps.

Stainless steel screws and such are perfectly ok to use for what your going to use them for. They bolt and screw your aluminum trailer together with stainless.

I can't beleive you are going to attach that kind of stuff to the side of a new trailer. I won't even tie a horse to the side of mine, I must be too picky.

13 I'm like Ice crem,guess I'm too picky,I will just barely tie a horse up to mine,and sure won't do it with a halter beneath a bridle,else they'll knock the bits against it.I like the idea of running bailing twine from the inside tie rings out to hold a hay bag,or a long bungee cord would work too.Can't imagine hanging a feed bucket on the side and letting one beat the tar out of the trailer playing around with that! But again,I'm not like most folks that buy their trailers to really use instead of look at,I suppose.I've just had my horses deliberately see if they can knock around on it.I've got a couple of collapsible buckets made of fabric that will hold water,and feed,and aren't hard on them.
Again,that isn't what you were asking,I realize.

Thanks for the comments, but I am an endurance rider that likes Multiday rides. This trailer is definitly for USING. Decided I deserved it when I figured I spent about 6 weeks in my truck camper this year alone.
With my old trailers, single wall, I just used short bolts. I use Bucket hangers and hooks with the horizontal ring at the top for mesh hay mangers. Takes about 2 minutes to "set up camp" this way. These hangers are very unobtrusive, at least to me.

I wish they had multi-day rides here, or I wish I lived closer to where they have them would be better. I love looking at the pictures of the Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon rides. I have every intention on attending Fort Stanton this coming season. At least for 3 days out of the 6.
Those bucket hangers are great to me. You can hang anything to them and attach them pretty much where you framing is, high or low. I'll eventually attach some more once I go to a HiTie system. Just have to be able to afford them. I have other things to spend $600+ on at the moment. One day though.
Another thought also, so long it's not going to be to heavy an item, you can go though the skin with a bolt on the other side and a large fender washer, but again, use stainless if your trailer is aluminum. If not, you can use the less expensive zinc coated. You can pick up most stainless stuff at a hardware store like ACE or TrueValue. Home Depot and such doesn't have much of a stainless selection.

Yes, multiday rides are the greatest. Did Bryce and Grand Canyon this year. Such beautiful rides. I am going with Hi ties with this trailer. Have tied to the trailer for 30 years.....Horses haven't complained, but I would like them to have a little more room.
I did find some SS screws with neoprene washers at the local True Value. I think they will be perfect. Hope so.
