So, my 6 pin plug on my 1980s Ford truck is dented and needs to be replaced in order to plug the horse trailer in. (It's dented enough that the plug from the trailer doesn't set in quite right.)Do I need to unplug the truck battery before I start messing around with removing the old plug and installing the new one? I'm finding tons of info about wiring diagrams but little to nothing about the battery. I'm a total chicken when it comes to electricity. Thanks.

You won't electrocute yourself but you might see a bunch of sparks, blown fuses, burned wires, etc. Just disconnect the battery to stay safe and calm.

Disconnect the negative side of the battery first. That way if your tool were to touch the terminal and part of the truck, nothing bad will happen. If you were to start with the positive terminal, you would create a short and bad things start to happen.Actually, you only need to disconnect the negative side to be safe, while working on your plug. Perhaps someone could tell you which fuse to pull that will do the same thing for your truck. That would be a lot easier.
