If I hook up to water at a RV spot, is that water routed differently than if my water tank is the source of water for my shower/sink?

It bypasses your tank and pump, the hookup provides the pressure.

Awesome!! Thanks.

Do I install anything to keep it from backflowing into the tank/pump or does it have a separate entrance into the water heater?

I would suggest you get a pressure reducer. It just screws on the hose before the city connection. It can be found at any RV store and is cheap insurance. We were at a location that the city water pressure was too high for the LQ water lines and created quite an expensive mess!

I'm assuming you're installing one of the standard water hookup things, one place to fill the tank and a place a hose screws in to. I think those have the valve built in to them.... hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong, never had to mess with that so I'm not 100% how everything works. You'll have to have a valve somewhere.... just don't know where it is.

Yep. I was planning on one of the water fill hatches for both gravity and city hook up all under one door.
