I was going to go to Falling Waters Horse Camp in Pelsor, AR but the website is down and no one returned my phone call.  So, I started looking for another place in the same area as we love the pedestal rock scenery and I came across a post by someone that had posted about Cowboy Up under a review for Falling Waters.

Has anyone here been there before?  I know what to expect from the terrain, but what about the campground itself?  The nightly cost includes one pen, but we prefer to put up an electric pen or hi-line, so not worried about containing the mules.

I've gone ahead and made reservations.

I knew I should have posted here before I made res at Cowboy Up, but looking forward to trying a new place.  Will post an update after our trip 10/18 to 10/21.  Cajunmuleman, plan a trip to Cowboy up for then, you can still go to Falling Waters in November!  Thanks for a phone number for Joe, I'll hang on to it for next time.

Work is a dirty, 4 letter word, but, also a necessity.  Let us know if you get hold of Joe, would hate to see that place closed as it is a nice, small campground and wonderful trails.  Knowing that some of the trails you can ride from FW overlap some of Cowboy Up's, I think we'll be fine staying there this trip.

Cowboy Up looks to be off of Hwy 7, north of Russellville.  The directions I was given is when you are going north on 7, go past Booger Holler about 3 miles and turn east on Victor Rd/CR 1000, then go about 6 miles.

One internet map source I used had us going north through Hector.  Lady at Cowboy Up said we could go that way but you wind around the mountain more and takes longer.

Yes, 7 is a white knuckle road.  Good thing hubby has not only pulled our trailer on it before, he's driven it before with 18 wheeler...says that was a little harder than our 4 mule slant trailer....    When I asked for directions during the reservation phone call I was thinking of going through Hector but was told over the phone its a longer drive and you are curving around alot across the mountain, so since Johnny has pulled our trailer on 7 before besides a 54' trailer behind an 18 wheeler, I got directions from 7.  When on that road I try not to look out my window but instead look out the windshield or Johnny's window!

The closer it gets to Jasper,the worse it gets.Outside jasper there are several big truck emergency chat ramps.They told us up at the Cliffhouse restaurant once that a guy had just ran off on one and buried the semi tractor up to the running board! Good thing they have them!

To me nothing can compare with coming down the highway from Jim's Buffalo River Ranch Resort to the edge of town.I just pulled my cap over my eyes and told my husband to tell me when it was over,if he was still alive.It had the sensation of riding a roller coaster with your eyes closed.

Julep, yes, PLEASE give us a review when you get back...including how you go to get there.  I believe our trailer is close to the size of yours, even tho hubby has pulled it on Hwy 7.  Taking longer to get somewhere is fine in my book to stay safe. We are counting the days for our trip!

If you've never been to Caney Mountain Horse Camp, Big Flat, AR...put it on your bucket list. I was there last month, could only ride four days (not near long enough)...absolutely loved it! This place has it ALL. It's like the Smokies, Southfork, and Shawnee combined.

Longears, sure wish we could have gone over there with ya'll but we were out of time.  Dang work sure gets in the way of fun!  Seems like you said, or maybe Terry Wagner's article said, that when ya'll went there it didn't have electric yet????
