A friend of mine is in the location posted above on vacation. About a 10 hour trip from home. On Saturday 6/7/2013 their horses were spooked on the trail and bolted. It's Wed and they haven't gotten them back yet. Here is a link to net posse. Please help get the word out if you are in that area.http://netposse.com/view_report.asp?reportid=1966THANK YOU!

Thanks for asking about the riders. They are good but no word on the horses. They've been on the news twice, FB, posted flyers been riding and hiking looking for them but no sign or word on them. They are fully tacked. This is not a good situaton for the horses or owners. ....So if you are going in that direction, Please keep an eye out for them.

We had a similar situation several years ago and what we did was tie several horses to a picket line where we were camping and a few days later the "lost horses" returned to be with the other horses.

Just returned from BSF, I'm sad too say didn't see your horses, but every campground has got fliers out and several people we met along the trails where also aware and on the look-out. Wish ya good luck and fortune.

Thank you for looking! My friends are moving to another campground and will search in a new area...about 30 miles away. I know on the news someone said the horses would move about 100 miles a day but I don't see that. I'm really hoping they are not tucked away in someones barn.

My concern would not be having the horse "tucked away in a neighbor's barn." I once had a horse get away from us at a cavalry reenactment event, fully tacked. By the grace of God, he was found in a wooded area, miles away, by a home owner. Their dog bark incessantly, wanting them to go into the woods. The horse could not move because of the tack entangled in the brush, etc. If not found, it would have been an ugly death. I pray for the horse being found, and in good condition. I have also read that to help recover a horse, 2 horses are taken near the area, and the one that would nicker upon separation is left at the trailer with supervision, while the other is ridden away, and you listen for a whinny from the lost horse.

didn't really want to say this, but as far as the horse goes I have to say I agree 100%, now as far as the owner goes I'm sure they want the horse back and whomever found it could probably keep the tack, at least that's the way I think I would feel. I hope I'm never in this position and I feel for the O.P.
Good luck and hope you find your horses!!!

If you can access Facebook, True West Campground has been covering this story daily. The owners of the lost horses were camping at their place, and True West has been very great about getting the word out. I'm not much for Facebook, but have been checking in several times a day onto TRC's page to keep posted on any progress in finding the horses. Oh, I sure feel for the owners.

I've had two different "calm, seasoned and very experienced" trail horses bolt off while camping in the past 8 years. When you witness them running off, it's a very sick feeling. I can't imagine enduring over a week without any sighting.

I'm not a face booker but Arlene has said how great the campground has been and everyone visiting and around the area. So much help from everyone and they've covered so much of the area on foot, horseback and ATV. They've checked pawn shops for their saddles, posted flyers, Net posse, the news...and here is a link. So far, their is no word and they've extended their stay.http://www.wate.com/story/22577280/two-tennessee-walking-horses-missing-from-big-south-fork-national-park?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=8986730

Charmer88, Please tell your friends how many of us are "holding their hands" and sending both prayers and best wishes that they find their horses. I'm sure this whole experience has been so emotionally and physically draining.

A word of encouragement~my brother-in-law's cousin from IL packs out in WY a lot. His horse left the small herd for whatever cause and was gone for months. The horse and owner were reunited even though there was no media coverage or social networking to spread the word. So tell Al and Arlene to please keep the faith; there is hope.

I even added Facebook to my Ipad (which I swore I'd never do) just so I could keep up on the search while we were out of state last week. Watching FB several times daily in hopes of good news.

I helped search for a lost horse last summer that was fully tacked that had bolted from her rider. Jasmine was missing for 42 day in a pretty populated area. People rode the trails and camped out in the area for weeks. We just figured she was stolen or had gotten hung up by the saddle. Finally on day 42 a guy spotted her standing in a field beside the road. She was thinner and the saddle had worn sores on her. So just don't give up hope.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I sent the comments to Arlene and Al. Still no word on the horses.Do you know how far the horses had traveled when they were found? I'm sure it's always different but just curious. I sure wish I would have went with them and was their helping in the search!!!Thank you.

We're headed that way this weekend and will be on the look out.  I know a lot of people are searching.  It's a very remote area, but I'm surprised the horses haven't turned up at someone's place where there are horses.  I worry that they were stolen or harmed, with the valuable part being their saddles.

They are still looking and extended their stay again. They have to hike all areas or if they are riding, stay on the horse trail. I read on a post today the horses were lost by the needles eye. I haven't been able to confirm that and I'm not familiar with BSF but was looking at the map and distance from the campground to TNE.. I talked to Arlene yesterday and a few horses, saddle pad and bridle parts have been found on the trails but not theirs. Someone may have told them about a valley with a lot of grass and water and thought they might be there but so far not one sign of them. Arlene had a horn bag with a camera and I thought she said it' wasn't clipped on as usual. They had oils skins tied on but not a shred has been found by anybody. Arlene rides in a Tucker with covered stirrups. They were putting out more flyers in more areas and it's been on the radio. I know not everyone is on the web and not in the house to watch the news but hopefully the radio will help. Thanks everyone for looking and/or keeping this thread active!

We rode all up top at Honeycreek the entire loops for a week. No signs of horses. We also took the off trail to the big valley of plush grass and water,no signs of hoof prints
There was 7 riders. Surely if they were close they'd Whinny or caught the dogs attention
Hope they show

Thank you!!!! Since the day they went missing not one sign has showed up. It's just not a good situation. It would be better to know they are with someone than hung up but as you mentioned, no whinny, no tracks. no pieces of equipment. I will thank you again and let Arlene know about your efforts. K88
