If you have a Facebook acct you can go to the HOrse Trails and Camping Across America page. If there are any there some one will know about them.

Caney Mountain Horsecamp is south of there.  There is also Shelton's Getaway Horsecamp and one more in the area but I cannot remember what the name is.  Nice riding in that area.

I am thinking yes you can.  We went Labor Day weekend and it was so hot we had to but we were the only ones there.  You will love the riding there.

Caney does not have hook ups.  They have horse water and I was told they now have people water.  They have a nice shower house you can use to conserve your own water.  They have nice pens and they will cook for you if you want them to.  They are nicest people and the trails are great.  Sheltons has hook ups but we have not been there.  It is south of Caney.

There is also the Flying R Ranch north of Mountain View.  It is a nice campground with about three days worth of trails.  Been there twice.  It us just north of West Plains, MO

We are going to Flying R in two months and can't wait. We have been to Falling Waters in Pelsor, Ar many times and really like it.  While at the Chuck Wagon Races we are going check out Caney Mountain for a future ride.

Taking a road trip over to Caney Mountain this week to scout out camp and roads.  Have heard the road in is AWFUL, so want to check before I take trailer in.  Have heard the riding is fabulous.

We have a forty two foot lq trailer and we made it in there just fine.  You do have to watch.  Another good place to ride at Hector is Cowboy Up Trailrides.

Drove over to Caney Mountain to check the road into camp.  No way would I take my rig in there, but I admit I'm a chicken.  Cannot imagine what would happen if you met a trailer coming out, there is no way to pass.  I'll be going to Shelton's Get a way at Big Flat, nice clean camp, nice covered stalls and level campsites.

After taking a trip to scope out Caney Mount I understand what CTR means. With just my truck the last 7 miles took 35 minutes. The camp and riding seems like it would be good and yes they have several water faucets around the place. The owner also was very nice and informative. I have mixed thoughts on taking my rig on the last 7 miles of road there. Does anyone know if they share trails with Shelton's Get a way? I would appreciate hearing from anyone that has road there.

We rode from Sheltons one time only a couple of days. Yes you can ride a lot of the same trails as Caney, you just have to ride a little further to get to them and there are some very steep hills but good riding from there. The Sheltons are very nice people and the facilities were top notch. We have a 40 ft trailer and no way would we try to go down that awful road to Caney. I wish Sheltons had a trailer you could rent to get a little closer to some of the trails. I think Shelly Bean is guiding people from Sheltons. When we were there we had to find things on our own, which we did but we probably took a lot of wrong turns and that made our rides longer. It is beautiful country and we hope to get back down there.

Shaun does have a trailer now that you can rent.  Our group is going there in Oct. for a week, I'll report more after that!  LOL

OK, here's my report on Shelton's Get Away.  Our group took up the whole campground, there are only about 12 hookups.   Facilities are top notch, and the owners are just great folks.  They do have a trailer that you can use to get to some other trail heads, unfortunately, due to the Gov. shut down, we were limited as to where we could go.  Amazing that they don't have personnel to maintain trails, etc. but had the manpower to be out there issuing tickets to kayakers and riders.  The riding is VERY rugged.  There are 2 trails out of Shelton's camp, so you have to do a lot of the same trail each day.  There are no markings in the forest, and no maps that I saw.  However, you can get a guide thru the Shelton's.  WE took a day off and went to the Ozark Folk Center at Mountain View, which was great.  They do use some of the same trails as the Caney Mountain camp, just takes longer to get to them.

NO, but we did trailer over in that direction and parked at a parking area and rode from there.
