HELP! I am no engineer, but I know what I want, I think :) Help me work out the design problems?3 -4 horse bumper pullnot too long (14 -18 ft trailer floor length is PLENTY!) My biggest horse needs 11 foot but can fit into 10', rest are great with 10'. ramp (prefer back and side or back and "front") easy to reconfigure inside for mare/foal hauling, ie "box stall". I was thinking that widening the trailer from 7' to 8' should give me the room but am not sure how long I have to have it at a minimum to be able to move the wheel wells forward so they do not encroach on leg space.Latches/hardware horse friendly - safe and sturdy!Any manufacturers to ask or avoid?I am a Midwestern flatlander, fair weather recreational hauler, so no winter Colorado trips planned :)All ideas welcome and thank you for taking the time!

Thank you! Straight load is a must for meI really just can't get around being claustraphobic about a horse tied up and being right up by it's hind end to close and open those gates.

Back in the 1960's, it was not unusual to see a 3 horse straight load bumper pull. Have not see one in a long time. However, perhaps a manufacturer can build one for you. A friend had a Shoop brand like you are looking for in the 60's, but they are no longer in business. So, yes, it can be done!

My horse prefers a straight load trailer over a slant and I had a gelding that simply did not fit in any slant load. We did have a friend years ago that had a three horse straight load that he loved, it was probably built in the 80's. Making it 8 feet wide you will have the wheel wells encroaching in the stall area. I know that hawk, 4star and sundowner make a gn model that has the front horse in a slant and the back two in straight stalls, perhaps one could retro fit one into a bumperpull.

Slant loads are safer and horses easier to load and back out to unload.... I would get more comfortable with my horses, if I were you. Make them yield to pressure, don't fear them, let them know what you want. You will save lots of headaches for yourself, and you won't have to get some weird concoction made up for a trailer...Good luck whatever you end up doing.

I DON'T like slants, my horses do not fit comfortably in the space provided; they are very safe horses to handle, I don't have any problems. I appreciate safety and will purchase a straight load trailer with plenty of safety features and escape doors when I can find/design one.A friend recently was in an accident with a trailer. Trailer tipped on it's side, slid on road, disconnected from the truck. Straight load - horses walked away with scrapes and bruises only. Any horse can panic in that situation, training or not.I have worked with slants before, with very well trained horses, there were no problems, I just DON't like them and do not want to own one.My truck has a cap - it is very heavy to remove, my trips are local and I live in the flatness of Midwest, travel mostly 20-30 mi each way at most, so I want to stick with a bumper pull, but want to have options to transport more then two horses.
