I know it's been discussed a lot, but my question is a bit different.

So, do you think that a steel/aluminum trailer that is still going at 16 years old is probably fine?  How about 12?

I was just thinking any issues should be pretty obvious by this point.

I hate trailer shopping!

Any old trailer is subject to corrosion or stress cracking. My 16 year old Sundowner had a bit of a corrosion in the frame. Had it cut out and replaced for a lot less than a new trailer.

The answer to your question is: Inspect, inspect and inspect again.

It could be fine one year and then the next you see it.

I had a 2003 sundowner with the steel frame that had the black coating on it.  I purchased it new and it was always cared for.   It looked perfect and pristine, no rust seen.  That was until it was banged on with a hammer and the steel frame just crumbled like dust.  Once the black coating was breached you could break the frame apart with you hands.  It would have been about 11 years old at that point.
