My husband and I want to make a trip to TN. this year to ride and camp. Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on their favorite places. What sites are like, are trials marked and what kind of terrain? We only ride with shoes on the front, do we need to have shoes on the back also? We're up in Il. ride in Shawnee with front shoes only.

What part of Tennessee are you looking at riding. There are places three places in West TN, three or four in Middle, and several in East Tennessee. Also, there is Land Between the Lakes that is on the Kentucky, Tennessee border. It would be a close place to go ride if you are already accustomed to riding at Shawnee.

Haven't really thought about it. Probably toward the middle. We can come down that way pretty easy on I 57 or I 24. Just want a nice campground and nice riding.

There is the Buffalo River Trail Ride in Waynesboro. You also have Natchez Trace State Park that is in West Tennessee; however, it is real close to the middle part of the state. It is located right off of I-40 and is easy to get to. Most of the trails are marked where you can understand how to navigate. However, the campground is not well suited for trailers with a floor area over 24 feet. We have had difficulty getting into some of the camsites with our trailer there. There is also the Birdsong trail ride. I have not been to this one before, but have heard some good things about it. I would look into the feasiblity of going to the LBL campground in KY. We have talked with several people from IL that normally ride at Shawnee. It is located between Cadiz and Aurora, KY.

Cindie- We've been to Double M, Bear Branch, High Knob, Bay Creek,34 Ranch and Giant City SP. I thihk my favorite right now is Bay Creek beautiful riding there. Good riding at High Knob also. My husband takes most of his vacation in Sept. and Oct. so we're down there just about every week weather permiting so we try different places. Maybe we'll meet up some time you never know. We usually go for 2 or 3 days come home to check on the animals left behind and go back. We're only about 2-3 hrs away.
Thanks everyone for the imfo. I think we might go toward LBL this year.

Not to dispute any of the earlier posts, but I would definitely want to have shoes all around if riding at LBL. I'm not saying the trails are rough or anything of that nature. However, there are certain areas where you will ride on loose rocks and gravel. If you take some of the side trails that are unmarked, you can expect to see more loose rock.

We just came home from a weekend at Natchez Trace Wrangler Camp; if you are not looking for an organized ride, NT is just wonderful. 100 plus sites with full hookups, year round campgroud host who is very nice (Jerry and his dog, Shadow). It also has 2 bath houses; a stable, marked trails. Alot of the trails are sand/dirt, and we see quite a few barefoot horses, so you should be fine with just front shoes.

I love Wrangler Camp and have not met anyone that hasn't. It has everything. The trails are very well marked easy to follow and have maps so you can choose anyone you want. You can look up there campsite on the internet for a map and more info. Go to google.com and type in Wrangler Camp Kentucky and you should be able to find it. Have fun.

The best place we know of in TN is East Fork... They have a very nice campground with 4 sections. "A" section has full hookups incl. sewer. If you camp in B through D you may picket your horses at your trailer if you wish. There is a huge riding arena and even volleyball. There are thousands of acres to ride with well marked trails on the Cumberland Plateau. It's really beautiful riding and it has something for every type of rider. The website I think is eastforkstables.com. The main barn has over 100 stalls and they have additional barns as well. It's extremely well maintained. We have been there 7 times and never get tired of going there. They add something every year.

BON1211, Tell me about the roads you take to East Fork Stables? We have been to Big South Fork to a private place. Can't remember about the roads. Someone has said that the road to East Fork Stables is alittle rough and has switchbacks? Help we have a 40ft rig and don't want to get in a bad place. We are leaving on Tuesday 26 April and looking forward to our trip. Thanks

For a weekend place to ride, try Many Cedars Campground south of Hohenwald, TN. They have a bathhouse, cabins you can rent, stalls and a very nice campground on the Buffalo River.
